3. Eric Gordon

Before the series, we wrote an article discussing the three things that Houston has to do in order to win this series. One of the keys to success was Eric Gordon, who was our X-factor. That prediction has been correct thus far.

In the Western Conference Finals, EG has averaged 21.7 points per game in Houston’s three wins. In the two games that the Rockets lost, he’s averaging 13 points per game and just 0.5 free throw attempts per game.

Whenever Paul or James Harden missed a game during the regular season, Eric Gordon took their place. In the 30 games that Gordon started in the regular season, he scored at least 20 points 20 times.

With a fully healthy roster, the Rockets have played their best this season when Gordon gives them a scoring punch off of the bench. With Paul out, Gordon becomes Houston’s second scoring option. Eric Gordon has to play with a scorer’s mentality for the Rockets in order to win Game 6.
