2. Carter-Williams is a good defender

Michael Carter-Williams isn’t really known for his offense. He’s an average finisher and his game from 3-point range is virtually non-existent. However, Carter-Williams is a solid defender.

Just last season, Carter-Williams averaged 1.9 steals and 1.0 block per 36 minutes. Standing 6’6″ tall and with a very long wingspan, Carter-Williams can defend point guards and small forwards. His versatility will allow him to fit well in Houston’s switch happy defensive scheme.

He also has the ability to pick up opposing guards full court, which is something Houston’s starting guards might shy away from given their heavy workload. Carter-Williams is also an above average at rebounding for a point guard, as he has averaged at least 5.9 rebounds per 36 minutes in every season of his career.

Michael Carter-Williams isn’t much of an offensive threat outside of the paint, but he can still contribute for Houston by playing hard, tough-nosed defense.
