Was the CP3 era for the Houston Rockets a success? It’s easy to say no because the Rockets were unable to win a championship, but it’s also easy to say yes for many more reasons. Here’s what I think.

The question of whether the Chris Paul era for the Houston Rockets was successful or not is difficult to assess, as there are arguments to be made either way.

If you’re saying it was not, you likely are basing your argument simply off the fact that the Rockets didn’t win a championship while CP3 was on the team. Or you’re likely not sympathetic to the fact that the Rockets were positioned to defeat the Golden State Warriors prior to the CP3 injury. Or you’re likely basing your argument on the fact that the Rockets lost to the Warriors in the post-season despite Kevin Durant being injured.

If you’re saying it was a success, you likely have a lot more to your argument than simply whether it produced a championship. You have to look at where the team stood before CP3 got here. Prior to the arrival of CP3, the Rockets weren’t legitimate title contenders by any stretch of the imagination.

Let’s take a look at the Rockets before Chris Paul arrived and then afterward as we discuss whether the era was successful for the franchise.
