2. Develop a go-to post move
Mike D’Antoni has never really been a coach that focused on post play. When he coached the Suns back in the day, A’mare Stoudemire did a lot of his damage in the pick-and-roll with Steve Nash, similar to what we see today with Clint Capela and James Harden. However, Stoudemire had the ability to score in the mid-post and would often go to his face up game and shoot over defenders or use his quickness out of the post to attack bigger defenders and score at the rim.
In order to take the next step as a scorer, it would be great to see Capela develop some sort of go-to post move. Heck, Hakeem Olajuwon is not only a Rockets legend but also one of the most talented post scorers in NBA history, and I’m sure he’d be willing to show Capela a move or two.
Capela obviously doesn’t have the talent of Olajuwon down low, but he could take his game to the next level if he had some sort of consistent jump hook or spin move in the post. This is the next thing that Capela should add to his toolbox and its the one thing that can make him a 20 point per game scorer.
