Daryl Morey “complaining” about officiating

Many people don’t like Rockets’ general manager Daryl Morey because he’s unlike any GM the league has ever seen. He’s compiled an analytics-driven approach, which obviously places value on highly efficient shots, especially the corner 3-point shot. Morey has also become a master at circumventing the loopholes of the NBA salary cap, as evidenced by the Nene contract.

I don’t believe anyone questions the brilliance of Morey, but people don’t like the fact that he’s vocal about how the referees have been biased against the Rockets, especially during the playoffs. But what is the issue when it’s obvious he’s stating the facts?

After watching the Rockets-Warriors series of last season’s playoffs, it is certainly obvious there were a plethora of missed calls that arguably cost them Game 1 of the series. That’s not entirely why they lost the series, but it’s true that there were a myriad of missed calls that played a part in the outcome. Why is it a problem that Morey is pointing out a non-debatable point? Granted there aren’t any other general managers who are vocal about things like this, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong for Morey to do it.
