2. Key #2: 3-Point Shooting
The NBA is a make or miss league and for a team like the Rockets, who take 43.6-percent of their shots from 3-point range, it’s a make or miss your threes. Unsurprisingly, when the Rockets were losing every game in sight they were converting a paltry 30.9-percent of their 3-pointers.
The Rocket’s six-game winning streak has been powered by their 40.8-percent 3-point shooting. The primary reason for the Rockets’ 3-point revitalization has to do with the lineups they’ve trotted out. Garrison Mathews, Armoni Brooks, and Eric Gordon, the Rockets’ three 3-point amigos, have seen their game action increase.
3. Key #3: The Starting Five
The Rockets have found a starting lineup that works. The lineup of Eric Gordon, Christian Wood, Kevin Porter Jr., Garrison Mathews, Jae'Sean Tate is an elite offensive group. The quintet has averaged 124.3 points per 100 possessions in 67 minutes together.
While the group won’t continue to be the best offense in league history, they offer the Rockets a lineup that can go blow for blow with the best teams in the Western Conference.
