The Phoenix Suns connection

The most widely reported potential Eric Gordon trade saw him go to Phoenix as part of a Jae Crowder trade. In the trade, the Suns would reroute the incoming assets acquired for Crowder to pay for Gordon. However, the Suns have also tried to land Kenyon Martin Jr. in these trades, which further muddies the waters.

The Suns have all of their picks and will have assets from a Crowder trade, so the ammunition is there to pry both from Houston. The question is, do they only want Godon if he comes with Martin? The Rockets have held firm in the belief that they can get a first-round pick for Gordon, and they should also expect a first-round pick for Martin.

Using two first-round picks to land two bench players is a costly transaction, but the Suns might be just the team that it makes the most sense for. They have their young core of Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, and Mikal Bridges locked up, and Chris Paul’s advanced age makes this a win-now team. If Gordon does head to Phoenix, it’s more likely than not he goes without Martin, and the Rockets get whatever the Suns can fetch for Crowder.
