Pick #2 17th overall: Tari Eason (Wing, LSU)

Tari Eason was one of my favorite prospects in the draft. He has excellent length measurements and will be a multi-positional defender at the wing position. As the Celtics and Warriors proved, switchable perimeter defenders are worth their weight in Championships, and, in the Warriors' case, luxury tax.

Eason isn’t just a measurement prospect. His college production was elite on a per-minute basis. He was top-4 in PER, win shares per 40 minutes, and box plus/minus. His shooting splits exploded after transferring to LSU and there is reason to believe they’re real. He saw massive growth on 2-pointers, 3-pointers, and at the free throw line. When all three blow up it is usually a good sign that the shot is for real and not just a small sample size fluke.

Even if Eason’s offensive game never becomes impactful his defense will keep him in the league for a long time. As an added bonus, he has incredibly large hands that may only be rivaled by Kawhi Leonard. If he follows a similar trajectory, he may end up being the steal of the draft and definitely earns the Rockets an A+.

Grade: A+
