Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks: Player to watch
The player to watch for the Dallas Mavericks is always Luka Doncic, but since he will be enjoying the game from the bench, Spencer Dinwiddie gets that distinction. Dinwiddie has found new life in Dallas after struggling in Washington at the beginning of last season. Since coming to Dallas, in 36 games, he is averaging 16.7 points on 42.1% 3-point shooting, 4.2 assists, and only 1.5 turnovers.
Dinwiddie has been even better this season in an expanded role. He’s averaging 18.3 points on 44.1% 3-point shooting, 4.8 assists, and 1.8 turnovers as a starter. Increasing his usage even further shouldn't come at a tremendous cost either.
While Donic leads the league in isolations, Dinwiddie isn’t far behind. He is sixth in isolation possessions per game at 5.2 and has been even more efficient scoring the ball than Doncic. His 1.19 points per possession is fourth in the league among players who average at least three isolation possessions per game.
With Doncic out, Dinwiddie will be tasked with guiding the Mavericks’ offense. If he fails, the Mavericks’ will sputter, but if he rises to the challenge, then it should be enough for their defense to carry the load.
