Houston Rockets players to watch

The players to watch for the Houston Rockets are Kevin Porter Jr. and Eric Gordon. (Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun were the players to watch against the Raptors) Porter has quietly struggled over his past five games shooting the ball, averaging 15.4 points per game on 37.7% shooting.

While his shooting has fallen off recently, his passing has gone to another level over the past two games. Against the Magic and Raptors, Porter dished 11 dimes in both contests and easily eclipsed his previous season-high of seven.

What’s the secret to Porter’s passing success? The Rockets have reorganized their offense to feature more Alperen Sengun. Instead of being a primary creator, Porter is now the Rockets’ go-to secondary creator, and he’s thriving. If Porter can regain his shooting stroke and continue to excel as a passer, he could be poised for a big game.

Eric Gordon spent five seasons as a part of the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans franchise. He’s not exactly a franchise icon or legend, but he did provide the bridge between the Chris Paul and Anthony Davis eras.

Gordon continues to chug along as an excellent floor spacer and steady veteran presence. He has continued to lose a step on defense, but he’s hardly the primary reason for the Rockets’ poor defense. With the Pelicans looking to compete this season and Gordon being in the final year of his deal with guaranteed money, tonight would be a great opportunity to audition for a trade.
