Josh Christopher’s Season in Review

Josh Christopher had a very successful rookie season. He went from a likely G-League All-Star to a real NBA-level rotation piece. His ability off the dribble and defensive potential give him a solid base to build the rest of his game around.

If the playmaking or shooting comes around, Christopher will be a starting-level NBA guard for the next decade. If both pop, then the Rockets are looking at an impact player. However, there is a long way to go for his shooting to reach that point.

At the moment, Christopher looks likely to be a Marcus Smart type of guard that can hound opposition guards, run the offense, and when he’s hot from distance will look like an All-Star. Over the next few seasons, there will likely be frustrating growing pains as his role and game grow.

For a player that looked destined for the second round of the draft, Christopher had an impressive rookie season. He’s unlikely to be a star but has a chance to be the type of undervalued player that makes winning plays without filling up the box score.
