Houston Rockets Stud 2: Christian Wood

Over the past two games, Christian Wood has been back to his old self. He’s averaged 21.5 points and 12 rebounds per game on 51.6-percent shooting and 40-percent from 3-point range.

Wood’s steady play has kept the Rockets in the game. His 14 first-half points against the Bucks was the main reason the Rockets entered half-time with a lead on the defending champs, and his seven-point first-quarter against the Grizzlies was the only good thing from the Rockets in the opening 12 minutes.

The only real negatives are that Wood has struggled to hit his free throws (50-percent), continuing a season-long trend and that he wasn’t able to shut down Giannis Antetokounmpo. The free throws are correctable, but the only person who can slow Giannis down is Giannis.

When Wood is scoring this efficiently he gives the Rockets a serious boost. He needs to be close to 50-percent from the field and 40-percent from three to offset his defensive and playmaking limitations.

Wood was an absolute stud against the Bucks and the Grizzlies. The Rockets would be wise to give him more touches when he’s shooting this well.
