James Harden Loses Bet to DeMar DeRozan and SHAVES HIS BEARD!
The shocking unconfirmed report out of Houston today is James Harden has done the unthinkable shaving his trade mark beard after losing a bet to childhood friend DeMar DeRozan.
Apparently the two had a long standing bet that if either of them posted a career scoring night in a winning effort on the other they would have to shave their hair. In DeRozan’s case, losing would have meant he’d be bald, but for Harden it meant losing his beloved facial coif.

Following the game DeRozan spoke of their friendship:
“It’s definitely cool because we’ve been playing against each other since we were kids,” DeRozan said post game. “That’s one of my close friends in the league to this day. “I’m close to his family, he’s close to my family, so it’s always cool,” DeRozan quipped. “Now we can cherish this 20 years from now, 30 years from now, just joking, you know, have fun together.”
“He didn’t have no beard back then” – DeRozan
In the Toronto locker room DeRozan added the two have known each other since they were kids and joked about the fact Harden had no beard then, seemingly hinting at the bet between the two.
DeRozan and Harden, teammates on the USA squad that won gold at last summer’s FIBA World Cup, first squared off when they were around 12 years old having both grown up in California.

Known to many in the Association simply as “The Beard” could this move have a similar result to the biblical story of Samson and Delilah? In that case Delilah cut off the brawny Samson’s locks rendering him weak.
Freaked out Rockets fans are worried he could lose his scoring prowess in this move and some were seen wandering the streets not knowing what to do with the fake beards they sport for home games at the Toyota Center.
NBA TV analyst Steve Smith was at a loss pondering if he now needs to change Harden’s nickname “The Barber” in his wildly popular Smitty’s Top 5 Under the Rim segment. Just this past week Harden once again took the top spot in Smith’s segment:
The timing for this bet to occur couldn’t be worse for Harden as the team prepares for their third consecutive post season trip and are endeavoring to win the Southwest Division. They are in a tightly contested battle with Memphis for the division title and second place in the West. Two pivotal games versus the team they are trying to avoid in the first round (San Antonio Spurs) are scheduled in the next 10 days.
In the interim the team will prepare for Sacramento this evening with Harden leading the charge like he has all season.
Who knows what new hair style or facial hair the top MVP candidate will sport tonight?
One thing I do know: This entire story is phony. We just thought we’d share a little fun with you.
