Houston Rockets Keep 76ers Winless and Earn a Much Needed Victory

Other than momentary heart failure when the Houston Rockets fell back into old habits in the fourth quarter allowing the desperate for a win Philadelphia 76ers back in the game this one ended up in the right column. The WIN column that is.

The fact the Rockets even let Philly back in the game is an issue, but at least for today Clutch City can breathe a small sigh of relief and build upon the lessons learned from tonight and try to gain some confidence and momentum heading to Sunday’s re-match against the New York Knicks.

Rockets Player Grades

Houston Rockets. PATRICK BEVERLEY. B. 5 points, 3 blocks, and 4 assists- Obviously Beverley is not 100 percent, but it was nice to see the league’s best defensive point guard back in the starting lineup. When the 76ers were gaining momentum in the third, his two back-to-back three’s helped the Rockets gain  their confidence back.. PG

A+. 50 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assist- MVP! MVP! MVP! Chef Harden must have saved his thanksgiving cooking for the 76ers. His hot shooting carried over from Wednesday, is finally looking like the elite player from last season. However, there are obvious chemistry issues still going on if you watch the players interaction on the court.  In each of the six Rockets wins, Harden has scored over 40 points. When the Rockets had a meltdown in the 4th, Harden stepped up big for the Rockets scoring 15 points in the quarter. Still, it begs the question… is this really how Houston want to win requiring Harden to score 40+ a night? If so, it’s not a reasonable expectation.. SG. Houston Rockets. JAMES HARDEN

B-. 12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block-<span style=. SF. Houston Rockets. TREVOR ARIZA

C. Houston Rockets. CLINT CAPELA. A. 13 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks- Some might think this statement is crazy, but Capela has been the third most valuable player in Houston. Each time this guy steps onto the court, he gets better. Once again, it was a productive night for Capela, and starting next to Howard will help the Rockets defensive struggles down low.

C. Houston Rockets. DWIGHT HOWARD. B-. 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists-Some who think since he was matched against the rookie Jahlil Okafor, Howard would have a big night. Unfortunately that was not the case. He had a solid performance overall, but Howard could have been more productive on the offensive end in the victory. With rumors of Harden and Howard not seeing eye-to-eye, it was nice to see them connect on this nice alley-oop. And, while Howard is notorious for being a terrible free throw shooter it was Howard who first grabbed the key rebound off the Harden miss and then hit both critical free throws to put the Rockets up by 4. Meanwhile Harden who obviously was a scoring juggernaut tonight missed key free throws in the same situation.

Best Reserve

Best Opponent:

A-. 27 points, 8 steals, 5 assists -The 76ers are going to win a game eventually, thankfully it wasn’t against the Rockets. Covington played some of the his best ball of his career and as Editor Tamberlyn Richardson pointed out in the pregame today the fact Philly has been in the last 4 games has much to do with the increased productivity of Covington. Thankfully, when Philadelphia needed him the most, Covington was a no show. Maybe Daryl Morey gave up on this guy too soon.. PG. Philadelphia 76ers. ROBERT COVINGTON

The Rockets will now go back to the drawing board to continue improving the areas of their game in trouble and will seek revenge at Madison Square Garden this coming Sunday (November 29th). Meanwhile the hapless 76ers now hold the worst record in major league sports with their 27th consecutive loss. Cheer up Clutch City, things could be worse.
