NBA Power Ranking Lists: How Pundits Rank Houston Rockets Week 6

facebooktwitterreddit

The lists for week 6 of the 2015-16 season in the books and with that the new NBA Power Ranking lists are out, so lets take a look at where the Houston Rockets were ranked.

In Week 6 the Houston Rockets had another positive week  though they lost their opening match to the Detroit Pistons (who had been on their own losing streak) they got back on track winning their next 3 games versus the New Orleans Pelicans, the Dallas Mavericks and the Sacramento Kings.

Now with an easier strength of schedule on tap if the Rockets can put together some quality wins while working on improving their defense perhaps they can turn the season around.

Here’s the updated NBA Power Ranking Lists of how the pundits rank the Houston Rockets for week six:

John Schuhmann of nba.com raises the Rockets to 21st, seven full spots higher than the previous week. Full week 6 list. As Schuhmann points out the Rockets will face 7 teams in a row (that started Saturday versus the Kings) who are under .500 and he also noted Harden’s plight on defense.

Matt Moore of CBS recognizes the improving  Rockets and says his pole vault of them may be a bit premature but believes they are on the mend and deserve the 7 rung jump: Complete list.

Marc Stein ESPN from the beginning Stein seems to have (even without directly stating so) felt a turn around for the Rockets is coming. This week he got what he was calling for and moved the Rockets up to 18th, like his counterparts this represents a 7 rung leap. Full List.

Jeff Sagarin USA Today has the oddest and most complicated ranking method. But I have to say based on where I’m ranking my teams it’s actually starting to make sense to me. This week unlike everyone who jumped the Rockets several spots up the ladder Sagarin didn’t have far to jump them since he already had the Rockets sitting at 21 last week. In other words Sagarin’s list actually seems to be a better predictor of the long term capacity of each team and also factors in things like records versus top teams, road versus home and East vs West.  Full list.

USA Today panel shows the Rockets listed at 23rd though based on the comments it appears they were actually moved up to either 17th or 18th. Since the entire list doesn’t appear to line-up outside the top 2 teams (Warriors and Spurs) we’ll leave it off for the week.

And finally we turn to Jeremy Woo’s Sports Illustrated complete Week 6 list, he moves the Rockets up 3 spots.

That wraps up the National Media NBA Power Ranking Lists for Week 6 of the season. My list will be up later this week. What are your thoughts on how the pundits ranked the Rockets? Let us know in the comments section below.
