Houston Rockets Daily Rocket Science: One Last Chance
By Coty Davis
In the Daily Rocket Science SCS takes a look at the Houston Rockets news and notes from around the web
In the midst of preparing for game 3, the Houston Rockets‘ coaching rumors are starting to heat up! With the Minnesota Timberwolves and Tom Thibodeau closing on a deal Wednesday afternoon. James Herbert of CBS Sports has reported that Jeff Van Gundy and Thunder’s former head coach Scott Brooks have emerged as the front-runners for Houston’s head coaching position.
"you’d think Van Gundy would be the top choice here, but let’s remember how . Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said at the time that Van Gundy wasn’t sure whether he wanted to coach anymore. Van Gundy responded by saying he was simply “fired” and Morey’s version of events was nothing more than spin. Time can heal this sort of wound, though, and Van Gundy would almost certainly be able to get this group to play harder on defense next season. his previous tenure in Houston ended nine years ago"
As management continues their search for a new head coach. The Rockets organization as a whole are trying to find a way to win at least one game against the Golden State Warriors. With game 3 set to take place tonight in Houston, Yoni Pollak of House of Houston provided a few notes on how NOT to get swept by the Warriors.
"The Rockets do have a chance to take game three and/or four if Steph sits, they just need to play better. For the most part, the effort is there, but it could certainly be higher. They need to win way more 50/50 balls than they did in the first two games. Second-chance points also kill the Rockets and they need all five guys crashing the glass on the defensive end."
That’s right Red Nation! Someone still has faith in the Rockets this postseason. A fan like Pollak is hard to find these days. Most die-hard fans of the franchise share the same remorse to this year’s team as Sean Pendergast of the Houston Press. Who in a personal letter expressed his frustration with the team this season.
"I wanted you to make the playoffs because I like playoff basketball, I like competition, the goal of sports is to win and hell, maybe there’s that 1 percent chance that you guys reach down for something deep in your sports courage tank and shock the world. I really felt like this, despite being outnumbered on Twitter and on my radio show by people who felt the need to over-explain to me the intrinsic franchise-changing value of a 2.6 percent chance at a top-three pick, like I was some sort of basketball first grader."
It’s obvious that the Rockets will lose this series against the Warriors. However, with the disrespect Houston have got over the last few days. Let us all hope the Rockets dig deep down and come away with a victory tonight!
