Appears Houston Rockets have successfully nabbed Ryan Anderson in free agency coming to terms on a 4-year $80M deal.

Up until minutes ago the Houston Rockets had undergone a disappointing free agency campaign, but it appears they’ve finally landed one of their targets in Ryan Anderson.

The power forward is rumored to have signed a 4 year $80 million dollar deal with the Rockets.  Several teams were interested in Anderson, so this is a win for the organization.

2015-16:  per game stats

Points: 17.0

Rebounds: 6.0

Assists: 1.1

Steals: 0.6

Blocks: 0.4

3 Point Shooting: 36.6%

Field Goal Percent: 42.7%

Anderson will bring floor spacing given his prowess at shooting from beyond the arc and is also capable of driving the paint. This will afford D’Antoni the ability to play center Clint Capela with him in the starting line-up and does seem to suggest the Rockets don’t think their efforts to land Al Horford were panning out.

Anderson has had an up and down pro career as the former Most Improved Player (2011-2012) seemed poised to continue this ascent as one of the Association’s premiere power forwards.

Then he was struck by 2 tragic incidents. The first was when his then girlfriend committed suicide. Fans of the reality TV may have been familiar with Anderson’s girlfriend Gia Allemand, who appeared on The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise. Allemand committed suicide in August of 2013 shocking fans of the show and all who knew her.

The second occurred in January of 2014 at the Boston Gardens. In what was a freak incident, Anderson and Gerald Wallace collided and causing his head to snap backwards. Anderson ended up having to be removed on a stretcher. After the incident he underwent surgery for a herniated cervical disk. He played just 22 games that season.

In fact Anderson’s time in New Orleans has been mired with injury. His first season he played all but one game, but followed that with the 22 game season. His past two seasons he played 61 and 66 games respectively.

If Anderson can stay healthy he represents the prototypical power forward for Mike D’Atoni’s free flowing offense.
