Nene Hilario became the third free agent to agree to terms with the Houston Rockets.

The Nene Hilario deal is said to be for a 1-year term for a total of $2.9 million. This deal came on the heels of 2 big free agent agreements Eric Gordon Pelicans teammate Ryan Anderson.

With the exit of Dwight Howard the Nene signing offers a back-up center who can offset Clint Capela’s minutes this coming season.

Further with the Wizards playing a run and gun style this past season, Nene should fit the D’Antoni system and have no issues acclimating.

Nene is a bit of an enigma given he marries great seasons followed by under producing years. Some question his motor and commitment. That said, he gelled well with Marcin Gortat, and should do the same with Capela.

2015-16:  per game stats

Points: 9.2

Rebounds: 4.5

Assists: 1.7

Steals: 0.9

Blocks: 0.5

Field Goal Percent: 54.4%

Certainly early indications are Nene is happy to join the Rockets and his teammate Capela is thrilled to welcome him:

Welcome to H-Town @NeneHilario42 looking forward to work with you! ?

More from Space City Scoop

In the new TV contract world of the NBA the fact Morey was able to grab Nene for less than $3M should be considered a win.

Presumably Hilario will be signed via the ‘room exception’ which takes the Rockets precariously close to the cap.

Further, with most of the top free agents off the board Morey can now fill out the roster either via veteran minimum contracts or investigate trade opportunities.
