Houston Rockets dropped their first game in Vegas to the Atlanta Hawks 78-83  despite solid games from Sam Dekker and K.J. McDaniels.

For many Rockets fans it was their first look at Chinanu Onuaku who showed why some bigs in the NBA might want to suck up their ego and try the underhand free throw. Even the NBA TV show the Starters showed it as a highlight since it swished through the net.

Sam Dekker showed off his skills hitting a team hit 18 points showcasing skills both from distance and had a show stopping dunk, but got hurt on the play. I mean can Sam just stay healthy, so he can play extended time this season? Sure would be nice to see what he could do in D’Antoni’s system.

The fact the Rockets were playing the Hawks may have also led to the appearance of a certain ex Rocket who was interviewed during the game:

K.J. McDaniels pulled out his full tool box scoring 15 points, grabbed 2 rebounds, had 3 assists and 2 steals. The only flaw in his game was the three point shot where he hit 3 of 9 attempts. I guess that’s progress given that wasn’t in his arsenal when he came to Houston.

Of the prospects arguably the highlight was delivered by Kyle Wiltjer who scored 13 points along with grabbing 2 rebounds.

There was little defense on display in the game which inevitably cost the Rockets the win. They’ll tip off again Sunday at 6:30PM EST versus the Sacramento Kings who got spanked by the Toronto Raptors last night.
