The Houston Rockets  will see a familiar NBA face in Jimmer Fredette in their first preseason game verus Yao Ming’s Shanghai Sharks.

Jimmer Fredette has bounced around the NBA, but never truly found a landing spot though some thought his 3-point shot would have been a great addition to the Houston Rockets.

Fredette who played in the Vegas Summer League still received lots of love as the fans have always had a soft spot for the enigmatic player.

Last season Fredette tried to catch on with the Knicks and Spurs, but ultimately played for the Westchester Knicks of the D-League. While there he averaged 21 points, 5.0 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 35.8 minutes. His shooting stroke remained strong with 45.8% field goal percent and 41.1% percent from three.

Jimmer tried again this summer to impress playing in Vegas to cheers from his many fans who seem to pop up all over the league. But, when no teams came calling he chose to sign with Yao Ming’s Shangahi Sharks.

Though Fredette has shown glimpses of his shooting prowess until he learns to master the defensive end of the court he’s unlikely to gain entry into the NBA.  His defense isn’t just bad, it’s glaringly awful.

Perhaps the former 10th round pick out of BYU can discover how to overcome those isses playing in China. A successful campaign with the CBA could find him replicating Michael Beasley who arrived in time to finish the season and play for the Rockets in the post season.

Other former NBA players on Yao Ming’s Sharks are A.J. Price and Bernard James.

The Sharks will play the Rockets in a preseason game at the Toyota Center on October 2nd and will play on the Sharks home court in China versus the Pelicans.
