A former superstar for the Rockets does not have an interest in buying the team.

The NBA world was shocked last week when CEO Tad Brown announced that owner Les Alexander was selling the Houston Rockets. Since the announcement, there has been much speculation over who would buy the team. Names of former players like Dikembe Mutombo, Yao Ming, and Hakeem Olajuwon were thrown out there. There are also businessmen who are looking to own the team like Mattress Mack and Tilman Fertitta and keep them in Houston. No matter what, the team is definitely looking to stay in the Space City.

However, one name that was thrown out there is not interested in buying the team at this time. That person is Yao Ming. What reason does Yao Ming have to not put a group together to own the Rockets?

Yao’s Reason

Yao is a very successful former athlete, to say the least. After playing his whole career in Houston, he has gone on to greater things, including owning the Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese Basketball Association. That is the main reason for his non-interest in the purchase of the Rockets. He just does not have the time to put into it.

Yao is a chairman of the board of the CBA. Juggling ownership of the Sharks and being a chairman with a new adventure of buying the Rockets is too much for one man.

2/2 Yao issued a statement that praised Alexander, Rockets but said he will concentrate on his new position as chairman of the board of CBA.

One of the most famous players in the history of the Rockets will have to pass the honor of owning the team off to someone else. Who would be best suited for the job? Mutombo is certainly an interesting candidate if he gets a group together.

Whatever happens, it is certain that it will be difficult to live up to Les Alexander. The way he owned and ran the Rockets for over 20 years was incredible. The team would be lucky to find another owner like him.
