Chris Paul needs time to adjust

It is no secret that CP3 was in unfamiliar territory Tuesday night. No one expected him to debut with 4 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists. Nor, did anyone expect him to be sitting on the bench during crunch time.

However, there’s no reason to panic yet. While he came to Houston to win, winning requires hard work and adjustment in any new environment. Remember this, CP3 is used to walking the ball up and controlling the offense. He is no longer required to be the tempo man. Houston Rocket basketball requires fast pace and lights out shooting.

In the end, Paul will get used to being open and taking more 3-point shots than he’s used to. The good thing is that the season is long. While it is disappointing that he didn’t debut like we’re used to seeing, in due time, he will be a tremendous asset to this team as the playoff push intensifies later on in the season.

It’s time to forget about Clipper basketball, CP. Welcome to a team where you will run, shoot, and pass to the open man, while having a roster that can pick you up when you’re down. CP3 made the right choice by coming to Houston. His role is to be a leader and to take pressure of Harden and vice versa. His ability to drive to the basket and incredible midrange shot will also help bail out the Rockets when the offense is lacking. And lets not forget this. He’s still an awesome defender to have.
