4 Houston Rockets players who’ve won awards during All-Star weekend
4. Eric Gordon – 2017 JBL 3-Point Contest
The 2016-17 season was Eric Gordon‘s first year with the Houston Rockets, and he didn’t disappoint. Gordon shot 37.2 percent from downtown, which actually is the best clip he’s had through his Houston Rockets tenure.
During that season, Gordon made 246 treys, which was fourth-best in the league. Gordon also went on to win the Sixth Man of the Year that season, both due to his scoring and his shooting ability.
Since Gordon shot so well, it’s no surprise that he was picked to be in the JBL 3-point contest, which was played in New Orleans. This gave Gordon a bit of an advantage, as he spent the previous five seasons playing for the New Orleans Pelicans, so he was very familiar with the arena.
Gordon scored 25 points in the first round, which was more than any other player scored. This not only advanced him to the second round, but it also led many to believe he would possibly win the competition.
EG faced off against Kyrie Irving in the final round and had already won the match before attempting any shots from the final rack. All in all, Gordon won the match by a score of 21-18. The showdown between Gordon and Irving can be seen below.
