Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has had a tumultuous season but his ability to recover has made him more than deserving of another Executive of the Year award.
Houston Rockets fans have been spoiled by having a general manager such as Daryl Morey, who is willing to make essentially any trade necessary to improve the Rockets better., regardless of the complications.
Morey has allowed Rockets fans to speculate about the Rockets adding some of the better players in the league, whether it be via trade or free agency. Regardless of the complications or difficulty, Morey has been able to add star players such as Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, James Harden, and most recently Russell Westbrook.
Morey also pioneered the rebuild of the Rockets as a fringe lottery team to a team with championship aspirations. Morey built the Rockets into a legitimate contender from scratch, as he first added James Harden, who had never been a starter prior to arriving in Houston.
Immediately after acquiring Harden, the next goal was to add an additional star to pair with Harden, which isn’t easy for a team not playing in the New York or Los Angeles markets. In spite of this, Morey has successfully constructed three iterations of this, which has displayed his commitment to helping Harden by taking the pressure off of him.
Morey has had quite the season, ranging from a political firestorm to a schematic shift which defies the traditional logic of basketball.
