The “Not Happening, Better, Younger and/or Cheaper” Club

There are several teams that are unlikely to be interested in such a move since they have much younger stars, not to mention less expensive franchise players.

Memphis Grizzlies

Why it could happen: Speeding up the timeline?

Why it won’t happen: The Grizzlies are built to contend in 3-4 years. Westbrook’s timeline doesn’t make sense for them.

Los Angeles Lakers

Why it could happen: LeBron James could retire, thus leaving a massive salary and primary ball-handler void.

Why it won’t happen: LeBron won’t retire. The Lakers won’t have the need or money after re-signing Anthony Davis.

Dallas Mavericks

Why it could happen:

Why it won’t happen: The Mavericks are built around a young transcendent ball-dominant guard in Luka Doncic. They don’t want or need Westbrook.

Atlanta Hawks

Why it could happen: Trae Young could suddenly be unable to play basketball.

Why it won’t happen: Atlanta has been trying to recreate the Warriors’ dynasty. A guard who cannot shoot is a non-starter.
