The Houston Rockets have not extended head coach Mike D’Antoni a new contract, leaving many to speculate that this could be his final playoff run with the franchise.

Outside of a run to the NBA Finals, this is likely Mike D’Antoni’s final season at the helm of the Houston Rockets. His contract is up at the end of the season and with no headway on an extension, it’s safe to say that the Rockets are content moving on from one of the NBA’s most divisive coaches.

Some believe D’Antoni is an offensive genius, while others label him a fraud who plays a system incapable of getting it done in the postseason. His career has been unarguably successful while also being unarguably a disappointment.

How should his time in Houston be remembered? As a success? As a failure? With D’Antoni the answer is never that simple. But if his run is in fact over, it should be viewed as a success, championship or not.
