Although trade rumors have been flying around the Houston Rockets all offseason, trading James Harden would be the biggest mistake in franchise history.
Ever since the departure of Daryl Morey, the Houston Rockets have been rumored to be shopping James Harden, as we’ve seemingly heard about a different report every week. Harden has been the unquestioned number one option for the Rockets since his first game in 2012.
Over the years, Harden and the Rockets have had plenty of highs, while also experiencing their share of low moments. With Harden having been the main guy for eight seasons with the Rockets, while also falling short of winning a title, the criticism is certain to trickle in.
Like any superstar in their 30s, the championship window starts to close with each passing year. Harden is no different, as he is now 31-years-old going into the 2020-21 season. Teams begin to wonder if it’s best to move on from their superstars before it’s too late, at that point of the respective stars’ careers. Looking at recent draft history and the names that have been rumored, trading Harden would be a huge mistake.
Like any other player, Harden has his flaws, but his teams have never missed the playoffs. For several years Harden has been in the top-three in MVP voting. When you have a generational type of talent like James Harden, you don’t trade him; you do whatever you can to build around him.
This especially holds true when said player is in his prime, like Harden. With that being said, let’s take a look at three reasons why trading Harden would be the biggest mistake in Houston Rockets history.
