The Houston Rockets have had plenty of players come and go in their two-way spots, but one in particular has been hooping in the G League lately: Daishen Nix. Nix joined the Rockets on a two-way contract during his rookie season, and the deal was eventually converted to a standard deal.

However, Nix didn’t end up sticking around in Houston, and he moved on to a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now, he’s back with the Rockets’ G League team, though he no longer has any actual affiliation with the big club, meaning any team could scoop him up at a moment’s notice.

Perhaps the Rockets are wishing they kept him around.

Nix entered the league as a G League Ignite prospect, so he has plenty of experience playing at that level. And now, at 23 years old, Nix is playing great with the Rio Grande Vipers.

It’s very early in the season, but Nix looks like a legitimate guard prospect that some teams around the league could look to take a chance on. Nix has made some serious strides since his first stint with the Rockets.

Through the Vipers’ first six games of the year, Nix has played a whopping 38.8 minutes per contest, which is the most of any player in the league. His teammate, JD Davison, is playing the second-most at 38.7 per game.

Nix is averaging 27.7 points (fifth in the G League), 5.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks while shooting 42.5% from the floor and 40.4% from deep on 7.8 three-point attempts per contest.

In the earlier years of his career, Nix’s three-point shot was his biggest issue, as he was never able to knock down deep-range shots. It was one of the more pressing problems holding him back.

However, based on the early returns of this G League season, it seems as though Nix has found a way to fix his jumper, which could be a game-changer for the outlook of his career.

Though he no longer has any affiliation with the Rockets (at least their NBA club), other teams around the league should be watching Nix’s G League season very closely.

Or maybe the Rockets could want to take another look at Nix. If he plays well enough, perhaps they would consider opening up space for him to rejoin them in Houston.
