The Rockets are in need of more shooters and missed key opportunities to add some during the season. That approach must change this summer and it could start with an opportunistic deal for Bucks guard AJ Green. The Rockets have often been tied to Milwaukee’s superstar in Giannis Antetokounmpo, but Green might actually be the real ideal fit for Houston’s roster.

AJ Green could solve some of the Rockets issue

Houston’s roster is clearly lacking the shooting that defines the modern NBA. This is a problem throughout the season, but gets even worse in playoff matchups against the league’s best defenses. But Green is an ideal solution to that problem that could be attainable for the Rockets.

This season, he shot an incredible 42% from three on over 7 attempts per game. That level of shooting and spacing can unlock the Rockets offense and make things easier for their young stars. Green is not only super accurate from deep, but he's also willing to pull a shot at the slightest opening - which forces defenses to give him extra attention.

Additionally, Green isn’t a slouch on defense either despite not being an elite athlete by NBA standards. He’s a smart and sturdy defender who always puts himself in the right positions. Even in isolation, he can move his feet surprisingly well and hold up in the post against wings despite standing just 6’4” and 190lbs.

The Rockets have the pieces to acquire Green

While Green’s shooting is a great boon to any team, it’s arguably not needed anymore in Milwaukee. The Bucks are stocked up on shooters but missing lockdown perimeter defenders to round out their roster. Of course, the Rockets are constructed in the opposite way.

A trade to reconcile the differences could be mutually beneficial. For example, even someone like Josh Okogie could make a big impact for the Bucks since they lack someone of his defensive skillset. The Rockets would likely have to throw in some draft capital sweetener, but Green’s value could be worth the deal.

Green is a perfect example of a connective piece that can help complete a team’s rotation. In an ideal world, the Rockets will be able to trade for someone like him at a low cost but get a high impact in return. His value on winning goes far beyond his counting stats, and it would look even better in Houston where his talents are desperately needed.
