The Houston Rockets gave Kevin Durant a chance to end his career on the franchise he wants to play after the future Hall of Famer made his desire clear last season. He signed a two-year $90 million extension that locks him through 2027 with a player option for the following year. KD asked to be traded to the Rockets and can now stay in Houston through his age-39 season.

Durant was blindsided by the Suns trying to trade in February. He ultimately nixed a deal to the Warriors. KD had more control this summer as he entered the final year of his contract. He wanted to go to Houston and is excited about chasing a title in Space City. Durant knew that meant taking less than the max, but the 15-time All-Star made that sacrifice to be where he wanted to be.

He just turned 37 and has nothing left to prove. Slim Reaper plays for the love of the game and the chance to compete at the highest level. He would love to win a third championship and first with the Rockets. There are no guarantees, but the extension allows Durant to end his career on his terms.

This looks like a match made in heaven. The Rockets desperately need a go-to scorer and shot maker after flaming out in the first round of the playoffs last season. Durant is one of the best scorers of all time. He now gets a chance to compete for a championship in the ideal role for the aging superstar.

KD didn’t want to finish things out on a lottery team with no future. The Suns went all-in to acquire Durant and Bradley Beal. They had no way to improve their roster and were destined to be an annual lottery fixture. It came as no surprise that Durant and Beal wanted out for a shot to chase a championship elsewhere.

Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.2 blocks in 36.5 minutes per game last season. The 37-year-old is still elite and now gets the perks of playing with the Rockets. This is a young team that can give him chances to rest. KD can just come in and get buckets. Fans know too well that is what he does best.

Durant wants the Rockets to be his final team. He is eager to chase multiple championships and play out his final days in Houston. This extension allows that. KD will go out his way as he fights for glory on a stacked Rockets team. He left $30 million on the table to make that happen. That is how serious Durant is about making this wish a reality.

Houston Rockets fans should be ecstatic. The franchise has their go-to scorer and several young talents ready to make another leap. The time is now in Space City. Kevin Durant is locked in and happy. Nobody wants to face the Rockets, so buckle up. This should be a fun ride with an all-time great leading their charge.
