Kevin Durant shares his take on teaming with Russell Westbrook again

The Rockets star sounds open-minded, but don't hold your breath.

Might as well get the band back together, huh? The Houston Rockets do need some guard depth, and Russell Westbrook does need a place to play in 2025-26, so... a match made in heaven? New Rockets star Kevin Durant is open to the idea, but I wouldn't say he's full-on vouching for the team to sign Russ. From Up & Adams with Kay Adams:

"I don't have no clue... I heard that too... It hasn't brought to my desk at all... Russ is a legend. I think he deserves to be in the NBA right now and I think he deserves to walk out of the NBA on his terms, so yeah, that would be dope... But it's not my decision. Leaving that up to whoever makes the decisions..."

Again, that's positive... but also a bit of a non-answer. Like, Sure, I would love to play with my friend is a lot different than We need to sign Russ now and I think KD's comments are more in the first category. So, maybe don't hold your breath for this to happen.

Westbrook still looking for a home and the Rockets do need guard help

Yes, this is a simplified way to look at the situation, but maybe things need to be simplified sometimes! As it stands, the Rockets are going to be relying on Reed Sheppard to facilitate their offense a lot. That's a bit of a scary proposition because we really still don't know who Sheppard is as a player after being used sparingly in his rookie season.

It's not like Russell Westbrook is a sure thing at this stage of his career, either; at times, he'll still sabotage his own team a little bit. But he's also far and away the highest impact guard the Rockets could go get for cheap on the free agent market right now, and desperate times call for... Signing Russell Westbrook, maybe.

Russ has been through the ringer a little but, but he still provides energy, if nothing else. Even at 36 years old, he plays like every basketball game is his last. You would think a regular-season game in February was a Western Conference Finals game the way he busts his butt on every play. He alsocan be a ball-handling option still, and that's what Houston needs so badly right now.

Can't really pick-and-choose who to sign in the second week of October, in my opinion. I say make it happen!
