In Season 2 of Netflix's groundbreaking series, Starting 5, in which fans get the privilege of following some of their favorite players in a up-close-and-personal manner throughout the course of an entire season, Kevin Durant of the Houston Rockets makes for one of the most interesting appearances across the course of the show.
Just minutes into the first episode of Season 2, Rockets fans are given a gift. Kevin Durant, in speaking about what motivates him, gives a quote that goes a long way toward encapsulating his legendary career:
""I simply enjoy seeing that ball go through the rim.""Kevin Durant, 'Starting 5' Episode 1
Kevin Durant reinforces the fact that he's one of the best scorers in NBA history
Throughout his historic, 17-year NBA career, Durant has shown a wide skill-set, utilizing his 6'11" frame and wide reach to make opposing defenders look silly, and, as time has gone on, his game has only aged like fine wine.
Even last season, at age 37, Durant averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds and 4.2 assists, shooting 43% from beyond the arc and earning his 15th nod to the NBA All-Star Game.
With a career field-goal percentage of 52.7%, Durant has long been one of the most effective shooters in the league, and, as a three-level scorer, he presents exactly what Houston needs to bolster their championship hopes.
While the Rockets will certainly need Durant to perform a variety of functions, including performing a role as a secondary facilitator with starting point guard Fred VanVleet likely out for the season, the ultimate reason they traded for him was to provide them with a go-to scorer in clutch minutes.
Their lack of this last season is what led to their playoff defeat at the hands of the Golden State Warriors, and, now, they should be able to put together a championship-worthy halfcourt offense to complement their intense defensive front.
Even in his first preseason games with the team, it is easy to see that Durant can still get to his spots with ease, as he has floated up a number of beautiful mid-range shots and used his handle to cut past defenders towards the rim routinely throughout his preseason minutes.
Therefore, while the first episode of the show gives Rockets fans much reason to be excited, this particular Durant quote also serves as a reminder of just how lethal of a scorer Durant still is at this point in his career.
