1 Rockets trade target on every team in the Eastern Conference
Milwaukee Bucks: Bobby Portis
This feels like an important season for the Bucks. Their inaugural season with Damian Lillard was disappointing. OK, fine - it was an abject disaster.
What happens if they're failing expectations leading up to the deadline? Who knows? Giannis Antetokoumnpo could request a trade. Still, we didn't think it wise to put our eggs in that basket.
Portis would be a perfect fit for this roster. As a combo big who spaces the floor, he can play alongside Sengun, or back him up when the Rockets want five-out spacing lineups. Portis also plays an aggressive brand of defense that will sit well with Ime Udoka.
Cleveland Cavaliers: Max Strus
Expecting a bigger name?
Think again. Donovan Mitchell signed his extension with the Cavaliers. His future with the team is far from guaranteed, but we can assume that he'll finish the 2024-25 season with the Cavs.
How about Strus? Granted, his three-point shooting is as much legend as it is reality. He knocked down 41.0% of his threes for the Heat in 2021-22, but he's connected on just 35.0% and 35.1% of his long-range attacks in the last two seasons.
Still, floor spacing is about reputation as much as anything else. Defenses will close Strus out. Moreover, his lackluster production over the last couple of seasons should depress his trade value. If the Rockets got Strus at a discount, and he returned to his previous form from deep, they could be getting a steal.
