Charlotte Hornets: LaMelo Ball

It's been a while since we went with a star. That changes here. The Rockets should consider Ball if he shakes loose.

Yes, injuries have kept him off the floor far too often. Sure, he's a defensive liability. Ball is also a walking offense. When he's been healthy, the Hornets have frequently been among the better offensive teams in the NBA.

Does landing him destroy the dream of Amen Thompson being a point guard? Perhaps. That shouldn't stop the Rockets from trading for him. Ball is a special talent - he's worth changing plans for.

Washington Wizards: Patrick Baldwin Jr.

We don't love Kyle Kuzma's contract. There, we said it.

He's a good player. He doesn't feel right for the Rockets' future. On the other hand, Baldwin Jr. could be someone who helps them in the future.

Granted, his career has gotten off to a rocky start. Still, it wasn't so long ago that Baldwin Jr. was a blue-chip prospect. As a 6'9" wing with a silky smooth jump shot, Baldwin Jr. still has a chance to be an impact player in the NBA.

Detroit Pistons: Cade Cunningham

We might as well go out with a bang.

The Pistons have not improved much since drafting Cunningham. Their roster looks like a collection of spare parts. We're not sure how much better they'll be in 2024-25.

Could Cunningham be getting frustrated? If you love the Rockets, you've pictured him in the team's uniform before. If the Rockets had picked one spot earlier in the 2021 draft, they'd likely have him instead of Jalen Green.

Why not trade for him if he wants to leave Motor City? Cunningham averaged 22.7 points and 7.5 assists per game last year. With a better supporting cast, we believe Cunningham could turn that production into impact.
