The Houston Rockets have gotten off to a surprising 8-8 start in 2023-24. The group has been nearly perfect at home (8-1), but hasn't been able to nab a victory away from the Toyota Center (0-7). The Rockets have secured wins against viable contenders, such as the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, and New Orleans Pelicans, although many NBA fans don't respect some of the victories, as many of those teams were without key players due to injuries.

Ime Udoka has the Rockets ahead of schedule thus far, as they already have nearly half of the 23 wins from the 2022-23 season. And it's been heavily based on stifling defense from the unit, as the Rockets once held the best defense in the league.

Granted, it hasn't all been perfect, as several roster defencies have been exposed. For example, the Rockets don't have a closer (although Alperen Sengun is almost there), they don't have a rim protector, and they need a scoring punch off the bench (maybe Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore can provide that).

The Rockets have the 13th-best offense, which is also a significant improvement over their 27th-ranked offense in 2022-23. However, the team had several players who made their way on a not-so-positive list from Bleacher Report.
