The Houston Rockets are in dire need of roster improvements, as they need additional shooting and a reserve big man. The Rockets could also use another playmaking guard off the bench, as Aaron Holiday doesn't attempt to create shots for others and Amen Thompson has been in and out of the lineup.

When Thompson has been on the floor, he's been used as more of a wing. According to Matt Moore of The Action Network, the Rockets are interested in acquiring AJ Griffin from the Atlanta Hawks, who was viewed as a lottery-level talent in the 2022 NBA Draft, although he fell to the 18th pick.

Why the latest rumors linking the Rockets to AJ Griffin make sense.

Griffin played a key role for the Hawks as a rookie but struggled to find playing time in the postseason, which was a pattern that took flight after Quin Snyder arrived in the Peach City.

Griffin shouldn't be relied upon for any semblance of defense and he's not the highflyer that he was in high school due to injury. And the 2023-24 season hasn't been kind to him, as he's found himself out of the rotation, which is why the Hawks would even be shopping him in the first place.

Having said that, Griffin could bring quite a bit to the table for the Rockets.

On the following slides, I'll dive into why the Rockets should be interested in the Duke product.
