As the NBA Finals are officially in the books, the NBA offseason is upon us. And the stakes couldn't be any higher for the Houston Rockets, who find themselves hoping to return to postseason play for the first time since 2019-20.

The Rockets are armed with $60 million in cap space and have the fourth pick in next week's NBA Draft, and will need to make the right additions to get them back on the right track. The Rockets have been linked to James Harden, Brook Lopez, Dillon Brooks, Kyrie Irving, and Khris Middleton in free agency.

We previously discussed why Brooks wouldn't exactly be the best addition, as the juice isn't quite worth the squeeze. The same can't be said for Middleton, as he could provide immense value for a young Rockets team in need of veteran leadership.

But although Middleton's value is unquestioned, the Rockets would be wise to shift their focus away from Middleton, for several reasons.
