2. Hawks-Mavericks trade involving Trae Young and Luka Doncic in 2018

In the 2018 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks selected international sensation Luka Doncic with the third pick. The Hawks wasted no time dealing Doncic to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for the rights to Trae Young, who went fifth overall, and a future first-round pick in 2019.

The extra pick turned out to be Cam Reddish, who the franchise later traded to the New York Knicks. This trade regarding Doncic and Young has been revisited on numerous occasions, as is often the case when two players are traded for one another.

Both players have made All-NBA teams, etching themselves into superstar status and landing hefty contract extensions. In addition, both players have led their respective franchises to the Conference Finals at least once, with Young leading the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021 and Doncic leading the Mavs to the Conference Finals in 2022.

The important thing to note is that the Mavs were able to essentially move up from the fifth pick to the third pick with just one extra first-round pick.
