Avoid: Trading Jeff Green

Jeff Green's contract was written with the intention of using him as a human trade exception, as he was signed to a two-year deal worth $16 million, with the 2024-25 season non-guaranteed. The deal also includes a total of $3.2 million in likely bonuses.

The Rockets expected him to be a locker room presence who they could flip into a contributor with a significant role later on down the line. However, Green has been thrust into a greater role, due to Jock Landale's inability to serve as a backup center.

Green has remained in elite physical condition, despite being 37-years-old and in his 17th season. Green has either been putting opponents on posters or trying to all season, showing he still has the same bounce that once made him a top-five draft pick.

The Rockets have reportedly made the elder Green available via trade, largely due to his outgoing salary. But even though Green's salary could help the franchise bring in a good player, dealing him would be a mistake.

Because not only is he playing well and proven himself capable of being productive, he's also a veteran with a championship under his belt. He's seen it all and is able to show the young Rockets how to be a professional.

Getting rid of that would be a tremendous mistake.
