2. Long-term rim-protector

The Rockets have lacked a true rim-protector since they traded Clint Capela in 2020. In fact, Rockets fans were clamoring for a Capela reunion all season, despite him being four years older and not even the same player.

The Rockets could've even used Bismack Biyombo, who is 31-years-old and also not the same player as he was in his prime. Rockets GM Rafael Stone added Steven Adams at the trade deadline, but he'll be on the other side of 30 and is coming off a major injury to his lower extremities.

There's no guarantee that he'll be the same player. And even if he is, he's only under contract for one year. Will he be on the roster when the Rockets are legitimate championship contenders? Regardless, the Rockets will need a long-term rim-protecting big man.

1. Go-to scorer/closer

The Rockets have yet to find a proven go-to scorer. Jalen Green has shown flashes but he's been far too inconsistent to instill confidence in his ability to be that person.

When the game is on the line, you need to have someone who can get a bucket. And when the game mucks up in the postseason, you need someone who can deliver, regardless of whether it's a 3-point shot or a mid-range shot.

The Rockets haven't had this since James Harden, and they may not have that for awhile. Those types of players don't grow on trees, so teams usually hold onto them when they have one.

It's entirely possible that Green morphs into this. In fact, that would be ideal.

But if he doesn't, the Rockets' brass will need to find their closer.
