5. Armoni Brooks

Although Armoni Brooks was a 40-percent shooter from deep in college, he went undrafted and faced difficulty fielding NBA interest. Brooks averaged 13.4 points and 6.3 rebounds as a junior for the Houston Cougars and played in some of the biggest games on the brightest stages.

The Austin-native signed in the Canadian Elite Basketball League in 2020 but ultimately didn’t play due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Brooks found his way on the Rockets’ G-League affiliate Rio Grande Vipers and averaged 16.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 37.5 percent from behind the arc. This drew the attention of the Rockets, who signed him to a two-way deal before giving him a standard NBA contract.

In 2020-21, Brooks averaged 11.2 points on 38.2 percent from three, and even set an NBA record for the most threes made by a rookie in their first 20 games.
