Every Houston Rockets player in history to wear #4
Sam Mack
We've reached a pivotal moment in this article. We're now discussing a player who the author actually remembers.
Mack was solid for the Rockets in 1995-96. He averaged 10.8 points per game in 28.0 minutes per game while shooting 40.0% from downtown. Mack was also a solid defender at 6'7" - he was a quality role player.
Mack would leave the Rockets to join the (then) Vancouver Grizzlies, but by 1998-99, he'd found his way back to Space City. Mack wasn't a star, but he was a useful rotation player who the Rockets were happy to welcome back into the fold.
Charles Barkley
See Barry, Rick.
Barkley is an NBA legend. The Round Mound of Rebound spent much of his career vying for the title of "second-best player in the world" behind Michael Jordan. Although, the Rockets' Hakeem Olajuwon was arguably blocking his path.
In 1996-97, they'd join forces on the Rockets. This was supposed to be a superteam with Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler in the fold, but all three superstars were well past their prime.
Barkley was still productive in Houston. During his first season, he averaged 19.2 points, 13.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Still, he'd lost his former MVP form, and he'd only continue to decline as he closed out his career in Houston.
Reece Gaines
Reece Gaines had some potential. As a 6'6" point guard, he was intriguing. Unfortunately, he lacked too many other skills to impact the game.
That didn't stop the Magic from selecting him 15th overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. It did stop them from holding onto him. By 2004-05, Gaines was a Rocket.
He wasn't particularly productive in Houston. During his lone season with the Rockets, Gaines averaged 2.6 points in 10.8 minutes per game. His next season in the NBA would be his last.
