Houston Rockets still have key contract situation to figure out
By Rob Leeds
There is a lot looking up for the Rockets right now, but it would still help to get all of the contracts squared away before the start of the season.
2022 is starting to look very bright for the Houston Rockets. There is a ton of talent on this roster that can help it turn into a real contender down the road. If all of these guys get going at the right time under the proper star power of guys like Jalen Green and Jabari Smith, the Rockets are going to be able to compete with any team in the league.
Outside of names like Green, Smith, and Alperen Sengun, the Rockets also have a bit of a rising star in Kevin Porter Jr.
KPJ has expereinced an up and down stint with the Rockets so far, but his most recent season has shown a player that makes too much sense to keep.
With knockdown three point shooting and a growing ability to distribute the ball, KPJ fits in this growing offense like a glove. The Rockets are going to have no choice but to extend the young point guard sooner or later, and that should be one of the last dominos to fall to lock this young group together for the future.
With Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith, and Jae'Sean Tate/Tari Eason locked down for the future, adding Porter to the mix for the next few years would ensure that Houston has plenty of time to build a core that is able to compete with any other team in the NFL.
Kevin Porter Jr. is going to be a long-term member of this Rockets team. At this point, it feels more like a question of when and not if.
