Never abandon your dream.

It may feel far-fetched. If you abandon it, it will be impossible to achieve. Forgive us if we sound trite - we're feeling inspired at the moment.

Let's say you're 28-years-old. Your dream is to play in the NBA. Many will suggest that, at this point, it would be prudent to abandon that dream.

Don't tell the Houston Rockets' latest signing. Jack McVeigh is 28. Now, he's joining the Rockets on a two-way contract.

Houston Rockets make an inspiring roster move

How did it happen?

When McVeigh was playing at the University of Nebraska, he saw his playing time significantly slashed. That's not typically a strong indicator of future NBA success. If you can't cut it in college, why would you cut it in the pros?

McVeigh didn't see it that way. Instead, he recognized that off-court unhappiness was impeding his success. McVeigh turned his attention to Accountability, Awareness, and Action.

That didn't launch him into the NBA. Last year, he was the star player for the NBL-championship winning Tasmania JackJumpers. Now, he'll be trying to earn a spot on the Rockets' main roster.

What kind of player is he?

McVeigh is a 6'8" forward with an impressive jumper.

Last year, he averaged 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 36.4% from three-point range. That's not an especially strong mark from deep, but it's worth noting that McVeigh was the subject of constant defensive scrutiny. He's a fluid shooter who can knock down contested jumpers.

Will he find success at the NBA level? It's hard to say. Logic would hold that it will be a difficult path for a 28-year-old with limited athleticism to crack the main roster. Still, McVeigh has never been one to subscribe to logic:

If he had, he'd have given up on his dream.
