The 2023 NBA draft was said to be historic. So far, it's looked the part. Plenty of the league's freshmen have impressed in the 2023-24 season.
That doesn't mean it's been exactly as we pictured it. Some rookies have underperformed, while others have exceeded expectations. Some have thrived as they've gotten more opportunities throughout the season.
As such, any rookie ladder that's been kept throughout the year has been fluid. Yet, some components have remained static. Spoiler alert: the player atop this ladder is not going to surprise you.
Some other rankings might. Why not read on and find out? Here's our rookie ladder as the end of the 2023-24 season approaches.
1. Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs
Stats: 21.3 points per game, 10.7 rebounds per game, 3.6 blocks per game
What hasn't Wembanyama done?
Seriously. Flirt with a quadruple-double? Why not? Go blow-for-blow with Nikola Jokic? Sure!
Wembanyama was the grand prize heading into the 2023 lottery. He's shown us exactly why. Watching him play feels like you've stepped into a parallel universe. In the year 4024, all basketball players will look like Victor Wembanyama.
Until then, he's the league's resident alien. Wembanyama is on a trajectory that few players have ever started on. He's unequivocally earned the top spot on this ladder.
