Los Angeles Lakers

Like Williamson, Anthony Davis was uncharacteristically healthy in 2024-25. The Lakers will hope that trend continues, but they can't exactly control it.

They can't defy time, either. LeBron James is 39. Meanwhile, the Lakers have done little to improve the roster around their star duo. We like the Rockets' odds of passing the Lakers, but still: LeBron James is LeBron James. It's hard to bet against arguably the greatest player in NBA history.

Los Angeles Clippers

It's easier to bet against James Harden. Rockets fans have learned that lesson. The superstar guard is one of the best offensive players we've ever seen, but his teams have a way of underperforming.

Kawhi Leonard's body has a way of failing, too. Most significantly, the Clippers lost Paul George this summer and replaced him with a hodgepodge of misfits and role players. The Clippers have more win-now talent than the Rockets, but they do feel like a team that's ready to implode.

Teams that should be better than the Rockets

Phoenix Suns

Don't shoot the messenger.

The Rockets own the Suns' draft picks for quite some time. They've got a vested interest in their failure. Unfortunately, the 49-win Suns have made some shrewd moves to improve their roster this summer. Tyus Jones and Mason Plumlee should make them a better team. Factor in an entire offseason to improve their chemistry, and the safe money is on a strong season for Phoenix.
