There were not a lot of Houston Rockets to watch in this year's Olympics.
That's fine. The Rockets are a young team. Most of their key players aren't ready for Olympic action. Meanwhile, the bar for Team USA is exceedingly high. Fred VanVleet is fantastic, but he isn't quite on that level.
The next time the Rockets will have an opportunity to send players to the Olympics, it will be 2028. By then, these guys will be in their prime. We don't know if they'll be Rockets or not. We are not clairvoyant, and 2028 is too far away to even make an educated guess.
We can make predictions about which current Rockets will be fit for Olympic duty by 2028. That's exactly what we'll do here. These are our rankings of the 4 Rockets most likely to make Olympic appearances in 2028.
4. Jalen Green
This isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for Green.
It is what it is. Green's signature quality in the NBA thus far has been inefficiency. He doesn't have a lot of auxiliary skills. As of this writing, Green is a scorer who doesn't even score efficiently.
That doesn't sound like a strong Team USA candidate. Let's be clear - we're hoping Green turns it around. We'd love to see him lead the NBA in scoring. If he can approach that level, he may suit up for Team USA in 2028.
As it stands, that would be a foolhardy prediction. We've got Green ahead of some other young Rockets by virtue of his potential, but we're not anticipating a Team USA appearance for him in 2028.
Prove us wrong, Jalen.
