Ranking every player acquisition the Houston Rockets have made this summer
1. Reed Sheppard
What can we say about Sheppard that hasn't been said?
He shot 52.5% from long-range during the 2023-24 season. That's patently absurd. It's no exaggeration to say that Sheppard is the best shooting prospect to come into the NBA in a long time.
Unlike Dante and Griffin, Sheppard was costly. The Rockets spent the No. 3 pick in the draft on him. That's a high-value asset, and as a result, Sheppard will be strapped with expectations from day one.
We think he can live up to those expectations. Kevin Pelton's analytics model has Sheppard as the best prospect in this draft. For the uninitiated, Pelton is an elite number-cruncher. There's good reason to have faith in his model.
Will he challenge Jalen Green for his starting spot? Will he emerge as a long-term replacement for Fred VanVleet? We're not sure.
Either way, he's the best acquisition that the Rockets have made this summer.
