Ranking the 5 worst free agent signings in Houston Rockets history
4. Jeremy Lin
When the Rockets signed Lin, it wasn't insane. It wasn't Lin-sane, either.
(Sorry).
Lin was fresh off of an incredible run with the New York Knicks. With Carmelo Anthony sidelined by an injury, he exploded. For a significant stretch of the 2011-12 season, Lin looked like he was one of the best guards in the NBA.
In hindsight, it feels like future Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni inflated his output. Lin was a crafty, shifty point guard with the strength to finish inside. Still, Linsanity likely doesn't happen if Lin doesn't find a head coach who's primary MO is to put the ball in the hands of a point guard.
The Rockets didn't foresee that when they gave him a three-year, $25 million deal. Lin was quickly overshadowed by fellow new Rocket James Harden, and never made good on the star potential he flashed in Houston.
