Ranking the Houston Rockets' 5 best Summer League players
If you watched last night's Summer League contest between the Houston Rockets and the Portland Trail Blazers, congratulations:
You're a real fan.
The Rockets had already shut Cam Whitmore down. Last night, Reed Sheppard joined him. The Rockets ran a lineup full of players who may or may not see a minute of action in during the 2024-25 NBA season.
So, Summer League concluded with a whimper. Now, it's over - and time for us to reflect.
Here were the Rockets' 5 best players during Summer League this year.
5. Trevor Keels
There will be some controversy here. Some will suggest that AJ Griffin should have gotten the nod. To be sure, Griffin's 11.3 points per game towers over Keels' mark of 6.3 points per game.
Look what happened when both Whitmore and Sheppard were removed from the equation. Keels stepped up and commanded the offense. Last night, he finished with 22 points on 8/12 shooting from the field, including a scorching 6/7 from three-point range.
All told, he was much more efficient throughout Summer League. Keels shot 64.3% from the field and an incredible 77.8% on 2.3 three-point attempts per game. By contrast, Griffin's respective 38.2% and 28.0% marks were alarmingly poor.
That's why he wasn't among the Rockets' Top 5 players during Summer League.
